Frequently Asked Installation Questions:
Q. How Easy Is the Installation?
In truth, it’s a very simple process but does require a little bit of pre-planning and time. First of all, decide where the charge station should go, and plan the loop to lay the boundary wire out from one side, around the lawn and back to the charge station. Finally, decide where to lay and connect the guide wire from the charging station to the boundary wire.
Once planned out, it’s a case of laying it out on the lawn and pegging the wires to the ground, connecting the power supply and then follow the simple set-up instructions to program the schedule. A quick start guide is provided to help, and full detailed information can be found within the operators manual.
There is a Quickstart Guide for the EasiLife Robotic Mowers. To get the most from your Flymo Robotic Lawn Mower, always study the installation manual for more detailed information.
Q. Where Do I Install the Charging Station?
Find a level surface at the edge of the lawn to place the charging station. It should be close to a power supply, protected from water spray i.e. garden sprinkler and protected from direct sunlight
EasiLife robotic lawn mowers have greater flexibility than with competitor robotic lawnmowers and can even fit into corners. Just remember to keep a minimum of 2m / 6.6 ft. of free space in front of the charging station. Keep a minimum of 0.3 m / 1 ft. of free space to the right and left of the centre of the charging station.
Q. How Do I Install the Boundary Wire?
EasiLife uses a boundary wire to indicate the areas to cut. The boundary wire should be installed around the edge of your lawn, and around any large objects like trees or hedges.
There are 2 options on laying the boundary wire:
- Secure the wire to the ground with pegs – It is recommended that you peg down the boundary wire if you want to make adjustments during the first few weeks of using the robotic lawn mower. Use a hammer or a rubber mallet to secure with the pegs supplied. After a few weeks, the grass will have grown over the wire, making it no longer visible.
- Bury the wire – If you dethatch or aerate your lawn it is recommended that you bury the boundary wire to avoid damage. Make sure to bury the boundary wire at least 1cm and a maximum of 20cm into the ground.
Q. How Do I Install the Guide Wire?
The guide wire is used for 2 things. Firstly to efficiently allow EasiLife to return the charging station as quick as possible, from any part of the lawn. Secondly it’s used to guide EasiLife from the charging station to remote areas of the lawn ensuring an even cut.
To Install, the guide wire is laid away from the charging station and out towards a remote part of the lawn, and connected with the boundary wire with a supplied connector. The same cable roll is used for both the boundary and guide wires. Simply peg it down or bury it the same as the boundary wire.
If the lawn has a hard to reach area such through a narrow passage way, the guide wire along with the PassageSense feature, ensures EasiLife will be able to travel through and cut these narrow areas too.
Q. Connecting the Guide to the Boundary Wire / Fixing a Broken Wire:
Always use the solderless original coupler whenever connecting two wire ends. For example when connecting the guide wire to the boundary wire, insert the boundary wire into the outer holes in the coupler, then insert the guide wire into the centre hole. Check that the wires are fully inserted so that the ends are visible through the transparent area on the back of the coupler. Use pliers to completely compress the blue button into the coupler which creates the join. To fix a broken wire simple use the 2 outer holes only.
